Position Overview:
We are seeking a Laboratory Assistant to support our seed testing processes in our Kempton Park laboratory. The successful candidate will ensure the efficient operation of the laboratory facilities and assist seed analysts with tasks related to seed quality determination.
Key Responsibilities:
- Follow prescribed methods according to ISTA Rules for specific seed species.
- Conduct daily temperature readings for all laboratory apparatus, storerooms, and laboratory spaces; report any issues to the Laboratory Supervisor.
- Maintain cleanliness and good condition of laboratory equipment; report any malfunctions immediately.
- Discard excess seed and sand daily as required.
- Clean relevant equipment thoroughly before and after use.
- Manage general maintenance of the seed store and regularly discard samples as instructed by laboratory superiors.
- Ensure the laboratory, seed store, and storerooms remain tidy and organized at all times.
- Carry out any reasonable tasks assigned by superiors to ensure the effective functioning of the seed testing laboratory.
Requirements:
- Education:Â Grade 12 with Biology is essential; Grade 12 with Biology and Maths is ideal.
- Detail-oriented and able to follow instructions accurately.
- Ability to maintain laboratory hygiene and safety standards.
- Strong communication skills for reporting issues and collaborating with team members.
