About the Role:
The South African Reserve Bank (SARB) is looking for an experienced Operational Risk Analyst to support its Prudential Authority (PA) in the supervision and regulation of operational risk within banking entities and financial market infrastructures. The successful candidate will join a team of risk specialists and be responsible for providing specialist knowledge, skills, and experience in operational risk management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Participate in the supervision of operational risk in regulated entities, including inspecting their risk appetite and management practices.
- Ensure compliance with regulations governing operational risk in the financial sector.
- Develop methods to analyze and interpret risk-based regulatory data submissions.
- Monitor exposure to operational risk in regulated entities and report findings to the PA.
- Contribute to internal capital-adequacy assessments and recovery & resolution assessments in-relation to operational risk.
- Provide operational risk support to the team and assist in risk-based meetings with regulated entities and auditors.
- Stay up-to-date with international best practices in operational risk management.
Qualifications & Experience:
- A post-graduate degree in Banking, Commerce, Risk Management, Accounting, or Auditing.
- 2-5 years of operational risk experience within the banking sector.
- Advantageous: A post-graduate qualification, Financial Risk Manager (FRM), or Professional Risk Management (PRM) certification.
Skills & Knowledge:
- Strong knowledge of the Basel Core Principles for Banking Supervision, and an understanding of the Principles for Sound Management of Operational Risk and Operational Resilience.
- Knowledge of relevant banking regulations and financial market infrastructures.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team.
- Decision-making skills with the ability to initiate action independently.
- Time management skills and reliable transport for regular travel.
Additional Requirements:
- Knowledge of key regulatory developments affecting South African financial institutions, specifically related to operational risk.
- Competency in basic office technology and software.
