Main Purpose of the Job:
To assist researchers in identifying researchable areas, developing and executing study protocols. This may include assistance with data collection, data analysis, and communicating results to stakeholders.
Key Performance Areas:
- Assist with clerical duties such as filing, organizing medical records, and data entry.
- Prepare and maintain patient charts and documentation according to unit protocols.
- Coordinate scheduling of appointments, meetings, and consultations for patients and staff.
- Assist in the planning and implementation of recreational activities and therapeutic programs for patients.
- Maintain the database and record observations and interactions with patients and families accurately.
- Collect and compile data for reports or presentations as requested by supervisors.
- Ensure confidentiality and privacy of patient information per HIPAA regulations.
- Maintain cleanliness and tidiness of patient rooms and common areas.
- Restock supplies to ensure patient comfort.
- Support orderly patient flow and ensure necessary resources for study procedures.
- Assist with study monitoring and preliminary analysis of data, including statistical analysis software.
- Aid in the preparation of reports, abstracts, manuscripts, and presentations of research findings.
- Capture and maintain data collection and analysis systems in support of research protocols.
- Monitor timeframes and the scope of activities as circumstances dictate.
- Coordinate and serve as a point of contact between sites and sponsors through various communication methods.
- Support adherence to protocols.
Required Minimum Education and Training:
- Grade 12 (Matric).
Required Minimum Work Experience:
- Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience.
Desirable Additional Education, Work Experience, and Personal Abilities:
- Expertise in a statistical analysis package or the willingness to learn.
- Ability to communicate and write in English and isiZulu.
- Motivated individual capable of working independently as well as part of a team.
- Proven ability to handle multiple tasks and report to more than one researcher at a time.
- Experience liaising with multiple stakeholders and multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
