About the Government Communications and Information System department?

The Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) was officially launched in May 1998. It reports to the Minister in the Presidency.

The vision of the GCIS is the empowering of South Africans through communication excellence.

The main functions of the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) include:

  • provides professional services
  • sets and influences adherence to standards for an effective government communication system
  • drives coherent government messaging
  • proactively communicates with the public about government policies, plans programmes and achievements.
