Transnet Freight Rail is hiring a Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) officer.
Location: Durban, KwaZulu-Natal
Job Purpose
To assist with site management of health, safety and environment and monitoring of thereof and to implement Transnet Freight Rail-RNC Structures, Safety , Health, Environment and Quality strategies and policies as well as related legislative requirements aligned to best practice so that all activities of Projects is in compliance with all safety regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities
Monitor all factors likely to improve health and safety and ensure that Job Specific Hazard Assessments on Site are conducted
Ensure adherence to the implementation of Transnet Freight Rail RNC Health, Safety and Environmental Specification and participate in the development of Safety Plans and approve sub-contractor Safety Plans and assist with inductions on site for employees and visitors
Report on Health and Safety performance and statistical process controls as directed by the Contacts Manager and Health and Safety Office
Align Transnet Freight Rails Health and Safety requirements with that of the Operating Divisions and assist the Contracts/Engineering Manager in resolving conflicting requirements
Participate in the development of Hazard Identification and Risk Assessments. Provides contractors with the HSE Specification
Ensure that Supervisor conduct Daily Safety Task Instruction (DSTI) and Planned Task Observations are conducted
Investigate to identify the root causes of all incident and near misses and ensure continuous follow-up in order to immediately correct unsafe acts and conditions.
Report on Health and Safety performance and statistical process controls as directed by the Contacts Manager and Health and Safety Officer
Identify and report training needs to the Contract Manager• Ensure adherence to good housekeeping and Occupational health and hygiene practices by Contractors
Conduct Safety Audits and ensure adherence to Safe Systems of Work and Safe Work Procedures are implemented on various sites • Participate in construction rail project/s related meeting• Conduct of emergency evacuation drills
Qualifications and Experience
- Grade 12 with at least 4 years’ experience in the safety environment
- Samtrac
- Riskmaq 3/MOTI Certificate
- Ircon •HIRA •Legal Liability
- Incident Investigation
- First Aid Level 3
- Basic Fire Fighting
- Computer literacy – MS Office a minimum.
- Code 08 (B) driver’s license
- Registered as a Safety Co-Ordinator with the Institute
