The Agricultural Research Council Small Grains (ARC-SG) seeks to appoint a highly skilled, experienced and dynamic person to the following position at Bethlehem:

(THREE (3) YEARS FIXED TERM CONTRACT)

About the Agricultural Research Council

The Agricultural Research Council (ARC) is a premier science institution that conducts research with partners, develops human capital and foster innovation in support of the agricultural sector.

It provides diagnostic, laboratory, analytical, agricultural engineering services, post-harvest technology development, agrochemical evaluation, consultation and advisory services, food processing technology services as well as various surveys and training interventions.

Through its wider network of research institutes and experimental farms, the ARC provides a strong scientific base and a broadly distributed technology transfer capacity to the entire agricultural industry in South Africa.

Key Performance Areas

  • Contribute to research and technical activities of multiple projects.
  • Participates in planning and coordinating glasshouse, field and laboratory experiments.
  • Carry out data collection, capturing, and basic analysis under supervision.
  • Participates in the identification and development of new business opportunities.

  • Participate in the successful transfer of scientific technology i.e. compilation of reports, oral and poster presentations.
  • Pro-actively provide technical input within the context of the research project/s.
  • Contribute to research by rendering desired support to research staff and optimise the utilisation of
    resources allocated to projects.
  • Utilise and maintain facilities, apparatus and equipment.
  • Comply to Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures

Requirements

  • A 3 year National Diploma in Agriculture/Biotechnology/Crop Production/Genetics/Plant Breeding/Plant Science/Molecular Biology or related fields.
  • Knowledge of maintenance of equipment and infrastructure needed for research.
  • Understanding of basic principles of research.
  • Flexible and strong willingness to learn.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office.

Competitive remuneration package will be congruent with the scope, responsibilities, and the stature of the position.

The appointment will be subject to a positive security clearance and preference will be given to designated groups in terms of the ARC Employment Equity Plan. Permanent appointments are subject to six (6) months’ probation period.
