About the SAMRC Data Science Internship

The SAMRC South African Population Research Infrastructure Network (SAPRIN) unit is currently seeking an intern (data scientist) to participate in the management, upkeep, and enhancement of the Unit’s data system.

The individual selected for this internship will be responsible for creating, executing, and managing protocols and systems for organizing the data provided by the network of HDSS Nodes that make up SAPRIN.

This will facilitate the most effective utilization of this resource by data users within SAPRIN as well as by the wider national and international scientific community.

Minimum Qualification

  • A honours level qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Statistics or related discipline.
  • Solid interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to define, analyse and resolve problems.
  • Willingness to learn.

Other criteria: Applicants must have basic knowledge of SQL, Statistical Analysis software e.g., SAS, Stata, R, and programming in Julia, Python or any other high-level language.

Note that shortlisted candidates will undergo a competency test on the basic knowledge of the programs mentioned.
