The City of Johannesburg (CoJ), Group Governance Department has the following Chartered
Accountant Training Programme opportunity available for a period of three (3) years.

DESIGNATION: Trainee Accountant

REMUNERATION: R29 850,81 (Basic salary with benefits)
LOCATION: 33 Hoofd Street, 6th Floor, Braampark Forum 1, Braamfontein

PRIMARY FUNCTION

The trainee accountants will be developed to be able to use critical and integrated thinking to interpret, analyse and evaluate financial and non-financial information.

This will assist trainee acountants to influence others and support impactful decisionmaking process, thereby contributing meaningfully to the City, economy and the society.

During the period of training, trainee accountants will be developed to become leaders who behave ethically and create sustainable value for a wide range of stakeholders within the City.

They will be rotated across different departments and Municipal entities to obtain a wide range of skills and competencies as required by SAICA training regulations.

Trainee Accountants will be undertaking the CA2025 Programme.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Grade 12 (NQF 4);
  • Must have completed a certificate in Theory of Accounting (CTA/Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting (PGDA)/Graduate Diploma in Accounting recognized by SAICA as a prerequisite for admission to the SAICA Initial Test of Competence;
  • 0 – 1 years’ experience;
  • Preference will be given to Johannesburg residents.

NB. Please note that you are NOT eligible to apply to the programme if you are currently completing CTA level 1 or BCTA (Bridging course into CTA).

STRUCTURE OF THE ACA TRAINING PROGRAMME

The City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality is committed to developing and increasing financial management skills within the public sector by creating more professional training opportunities for prospective Chartered Accountants.

The programme is geared towards providing trainee accountants with the opportunity of gaining valuable hands-on work experience, dedicated training in financial management and all its disciplines, a broad exposure to a variety of Local Government business operations and management functions.

The City of Johannesburg Chartered Accountant Training Programme is guided by the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) training regulations, which requires practical experience to obtain the prescribed technical and professional competence in the value creation process.

The three (3) year professional training programme has been structured in a manner that offers the trainee accountants exposure in key areas with professional values, attitudes, business acumen, accounting, financial reporting, governance, business and financial strategy, internal audit and risk management.

Trainee Accountants will be offered competitive market-related salaries.
