Job Purpose

Shoprite are focused on building Human Resource careers with a strong focus on retail experience in order to create great career opportunities in the People space in their business.

To this end, they are looking for recent Human Resource Graduates to join their Retail Trainee Manager programme, which runs approximately 12 months.

The programme is a practical introduction to their working culture and environment, for graduates to understand all the daily operations involved in running a retail store, with a dual focus on completing the trainee manager programme and providing support to the Regional People Partner. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform Trainer Manger duties, whilst shadowing the Regional People Partner. 
  • Execute HR duties as required, under the supervision of the Regional People Manager.  
  • Learn the employee benefits program including pensions, paid time off, and other benefits offered by the company. Achieve store sales and profit targets through effective execution of divisional strategies. 

  • Execute customer service excellence through every aspect of the store, including store appearance, display of merchandise, product placement, story layout, and selling procedures. 
  • Respond to customer complaints in accordance with company policies and procedures. 
  • Monitor and report on performance and sales against daily targets. 
  • Execute stock management procedures, including monitoring stock and inventory, and performing quality assurance of merchandise regularly. 

  • Minimize stock loss through compliance with security measures, stock and cash handling procedures. 
  • Implement pricing policies on merchandise 
  • Coordinate merchandise display and sales promotion activities. 
  • Orders merchandise and prepare requisitions to replenish merchandise on hand. 
  • Perform administrative tasks to support the smooth operation of all store operations, including the submission of employee paperwork, preparing and submitting reports, and monitoring sales receipts and cash. 

  • Execute financial administration including taking inventories, reconciling cash with sales receipts and preparing daily records of transactions. 
  • Ensure employees comply with established security, sales and record-keeping procedures and practices. 
  • Support with people management functions including coordinating staffing schedules, managing of performance and upskilling of teams. 
  • Monitor and report on the store’s compliance with health and safety policies. 

Qualifications and Experience

Qualifications3 year National Diploma/Degree in Human Resource Management or Labour Legislation.
Experience1 year work experience in a retail environment
